DUMBO (an acronym for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass”) encompasses two sections; one located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, and another with continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Vinegar Hill area. Some of the area’s main attractions are the excellent views of the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges and of Lower Manhattan and Jacques Torres’ chocolate factory. There are also several public places where the views can be enjoyed. These include Fulton Ferry, Empire-Fulton State Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park, which was opened in 2006. Brooklyn Bridge Park is currently planned for further expansion, bringing even more waterfront park area.
In The News: Close-Up On Dumbo. The Boundaries: Runs from John Street/East River in the north to Prospect Street in the south and Hudson Avenue in the east to Main Street in the west. The Commute: The A,C and F subway lines serve the area, at High Street-Brooklyn Bridge and York Street, respectively, as well as the New York Water Taxi at the Fulton Ferry.
