Gravesend, BrooklynGravesend (pronounced “GRAVES end”, not “grave SEND”) was named after the English seaport of Gravesend, Kent. However, many speculate that the namesake comes from many roads that intersect the Washington Cemetery located in the area, between 65th Street, Bay Parkway and Ocean Parkway. Residing in Gravesend means living in a picturesque neighborhood of one and two-gamily homes that sit on quaint tree-lined blocks. Modern mansions, several in Spanish-style red and tan brick with sloping stucco roofs are also common.
